WELDING FABRICATION

CERTIFIED WELDING SERVICES

Across many industries, a greater focus has been applied to the quality and reliability of weldments. This is evidenced by greater demand for welding performed to certified procedures and inspected by accredited inspectors. At Plant Machine Works, with a certified weld inspector on staff and a continuity of over 40 ASME-certified procedures, we have the experience and qualifications to meet your welding needs.

MAJOR TYPES OF WELDING

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) – Also known as Stick Welding, SMAW is a low-cost, portable process that can be performed with fewer weld preparations than other welding types. Stick welding can be used in many contexts, while most other welding processes are viable only in specific conditions.

Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)– Through a non-consumable tungsten electrode and a shielding gas, GTAW, otherwise known as TIG, is a welding type used when greater control of the process is required. The weld quality produced by GTAW makes it the appropriate choice for joining thin material, regardless of whether the base metal is similar or not. GTAW is most commonly used with stainless steel, nickel alloys, and aluminum.

Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) –  Gas metal arc welding reduces welding waste and requires minimal weld clean-up. It produces less heat and generates fewer harmful fumes. GMAW produces clean, strong welds used in many fields, including the automotive, robotics, and maritime industries.

Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) –Like GMAW, flux-cored arc welding uses a continuous wire-fed electrode. But where GMAW employs a solid wire, flux-cored shields its weld through a wire with a flux-filled core, making this process the preferred choice when welding outdoors. Flux-cored arc welding is easy to learn and very inexpensive to perform.
